Lensmaster Mulberry Interview
Squidoo Lens Reviews: What makes you passionate about Squidoo.com?
Mulberry: Certainly as a person who is trying to market products/services, convey information to the outside world, or get the word out about anything, Squidoo is a great tool. It's so easy to make and update lenses. But probably what makes Squidoo stand out is the community; the ability it gives you to interact with and learn from others as well as its focus on giving/charity. There are many experienced people here and they share information so freely; there really is no place else like Squidoo on the web.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: Is Squidoo perfect already or what could make it better?
Mulberry: I'm not really sure how it could be improved upon. Some form of quality control seems like a good idea at times when you see lenses that are almost "unreadable" or ones that have basically no content at all. It can give us all a bad reptuation. I'm not sure there is a good way to do this however. The only other thing coming to mind is that it might be good to partner with more sites for free access to photos. This probably isn't likely for a number of reasons but I know that good photos can really make a lens and often I am unable to find great ones.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: What inspires you to make a new lens?
Mulberry: Most often a lens is inspired by a question I receive through my blog or that I see posted repeatedly in a forum. I use my lenses to try to get that information out there for all those peole who have such questions. My lenses about How to Stop Unwanted Calls and Messages and How to Get Better Cell Phone Reception are examples of this.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: How many lenses do you have?
Mulberry: I'm working on number 84 today. I'm not the fastest lensmaster on Squidoo and that's for sure! My goal is 120 by the end of the year and I expect to hit that.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: What is your most popular lens?
Mulberry: I guess that would be my Text Messaging Help lens. I made it 5 or 6 months ago and it hovers between 85 and 150 as far as its total lensrank. It gets almost all of its traffic from Google; around 590-620 visits per week and it's had over 2,070 click outs this month. Generally, I can't predict how well a lens will do and this one is an example of that.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: What one sentence or one word describes your success?
Mulberry: Persistence, persistence, persistence. I never let failure get in the way and I try to always be open to learning new things and adjusting my direction.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: What should a newbie do first?
Mulberry: Visit a lot of lenses and hang out in the forum to learn from others. That is the strength of Squidoo. There is not just one way to create a great or successful lens and seeing them all will give newbies the chance to see good things in action and decide how they want to design their own.
Squidoo Lens Reviews: Which of your lenses do you want to make sure the whole world knows about?
Mulberry: Hmm, that's a tough one actually. Most of my lenses try to provide useful information but they aren't earth shaking, world altering stuff. I do have one or two with more of a social focus but my favorite would have to be my Cell Phones for the Hearing Impaired lens. I really wanted to put together a resource that presented all of the options available for the deaf and hearing impaired; it took a bit of research.
