April Fool's Day is the recognized day of practical jokes. Most people are caught by at least one harmless joke. Some people do manage to go to extremes and upset their friends and loved ones.
Some of the recent big perpetrators of such jokes have been the always trust worthy Google, Microsoft and Youtube. Even Neopets has tarnished their reputation on this well-known day for pranksters.
Google has come up with some real winners in the past such as Google TiSP free in-home wireless broadband service and Virgle where Google announced a joint project with the Virgin Group to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars.
Google’s apparent love of April Fool's Day caused many people to believe the new Gmail with 1 gigabyte of storage for emails to be a hoax when it was announced on April 1, 2004.
In 2009, President Barack Obama was said to have ordered Chevrolet and Dodge to pull funding for NASCAR. This was reported on the Car and Driver website.
